Movie night in the park 🎥🍿🎄 Join us for fun and fellowship as Communities in Schools hosts its first ever Movie In The Park event. We will be showing The Grinch. Admission will be FREE and concessions available. Movie will start at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Metter on December 12th. Make sure to bring a blanket and/or pillow for your comfort. We will also be giving out Christmas books to all children. PROM will be held April 5, 2024 at Pine Needle Plantation. Prom dues will increase after December 15 so you may want to go ahead and pay! Junior Dues are $60 now but they will increase to $85 for each junior after Dec 15th! Please pay the MHS Front office staff.

A Candler County Schools bus was involved in an accident this morning at the corner of Vertia St. and College St. around 8 am this morning. No children were aboard the bus at the time and no injuries were reported by either driver. Authorities responded quickly and a full report of the accident will be released by the Georgia State Patrol at a later time.

Dr. Bubba Longgrear, Candler County School District Superintendent, has been recognized as one of four 2024 Superintendent of the Year Finalists for the state of Georgia by the Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA)! "It is an honor to be recognized as a finalist," says Dr. Longgrear. "This is truly a recognition for the good work of our school system and community." Nominations were received from August 2, 2023, to September 1, 2023. Nominations were made by boards of education, colleagues, community members, and businesses, from all over our state. There were 24 candidates nominated and four were selected as state finalists to represent the superintendent’s profession in Georgia. These four finalists will now move to the next phase of completing an application to enter the national competition, where one of the four will be selected to represent the state of Georgia against the other 49 states and Canada. "This is a tremendous honor to be amongst the very best professionals who answer the call to serve in the K-12 Public School Superintendency...a most challenging and honorable career," says Dr. John Zauner, Executive Director of GSSA.

The American Rescue Plan Act Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief required the Candler County School District to create a plan to ensure additional steps are taken to safely reopen schools for in-person instruction, keep schools open, and take appropriate measures to helps schools invest in mitigation strategies consistent with the CDC. Our Lady Tigers Softball Team will enter the Super Regionals on Wednesday, October 18 during Game 2 against Swainsboro Tigers at 2 pm at Crawford County High School. MCCA welcomed Georgia Department of Education representatives Dr. Barbara Wahl and Matt Donaldson, Senator Billy Hickman for State Senate and MCCA Board Members Victoria Gaitten and Marty Ray today to learn more about the College and Career Academy and to see some of the students in action. The group met with the Heavy Equipment Operator class (who demonstrated the heavy equipment simulators), Mrs. Autumn Chicola's ELA class (who are building a campaign to help Metter Animal Shelter), and with Mr. Tony Lescak's Film and Audio Technology class (who were filming "match shots" in the MHS Commons Area).
