Dr. Bubba Longgrear, Candler County School District Superintendent, has been recognized as one of four 2024 Superintendent of the Year Finalists for the state of Georgia by the Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA)! "It is an honor to be recognized as a finalist," says Dr. Longgrear. "This is truly a recognition for the good work of our school system and community." Nominations were received from August 2, 2023, to September 1, 2023. Nominations were made by boards of education, colleagues, community members, and businesses, from all over our state. There were 24 candidates nominated and four were selected as state finalists to represent the superintendent’s profession in Georgia. These four finalists will now move to the next phase of completing an application to enter the national competition, where one of the four will be selected to represent the state of Georgia against the other 49 states and Canada. "This is a tremendous honor to be amongst the very best professionals who answer the call to serve in the K-12 Public School Superintendency...a most challenging and honorable career," says Dr. John Zauner, Executive Director of GSSA.

Our MHS Lady Tigers Softball Team lost 2-3 against Swainsboro Tigers at the Super Regionals being held at Crawford County High School. Tigers will now play Pelham High School. Follow the Lady Tigers on Gamechanger or check back here for updates.

MMS Football Tigers will take on Toombs County in The Pit (175 W Toombs Ave, Lyons) on Thursday, October 19 at 5 pm. This is the Region SemiFinals game, so come so your support for these hard-working Tigers!

The American Rescue Plan Act Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief required the Candler County School District to create a plan to ensure additional steps are taken to safely reopen schools for in-person instruction, keep schools open, and take appropriate measures to helps schools invest in mitigation strategies consistent with the CDC. In addition, school districts must address interrupted instruction by committing a minimum of 20% of these funds to address learning loss. Our Lady Tigers Softball Team will enter the Super Regionals on Wednesday, October 18 during Game 2 against Swainsboro Tigers at 2 pm at Crawford County High School. When we win Game 2, we will play the winner of Game 1 at 6 pm. GHSA has set ticket prices at $12 for a day pass or $20 for tournament pass. MMS Lady Tigers are headed to the 🥎 CHAMPIONSHIP🥎. After their win 11-3 against Bryan County, the championship game will be Saturday at 10 am in Toombs County. 🏆

The local Health Department (428 N Rountree St, Metter 1-855- 473-4374) can provide these shots on a walk in basis. Students and parents have received two notices and phone calls in reference to these shots. Round 1 of the Playoffs complete. Metter Middle School Lady Tigers win 16-1 after the 3rd inning against North Tattnall. 💪💪 on to the Semifinals on Thursday at HOME!!! 🐅🏆 Go Tigers! Offensively the team was lead by Zailee Thurman and Judson Vining who each had 4 RBI on the day. Emma West and Maddie White also added 2 RBI. Althea Reichard and Brook Lawrence each had 1. Kirsten Shuman added a hit as well. Defensively the Tigers were lead by Judson Vining who collected 8 strikeouts while only giving up 2 hits. Great game Tigers! Keep grinding! Keep working hard!
